Arrest Warrent (Madness Combat Part 3)

Arrest Warrant

Out of their cruisers they stepped, doors open wide to help cover their fragile forms from any possible attack. “Freeze!” One of them yelled as the others laid the iron sights of their weapons upon me. I remained still, the blade in my hand vanishing in a burst of shadowy fire. “I submit as long as you take me to the sheriff.” I told them as they remained steady. “You killed our recruits! Like hell we’re going to let you come out of this alive.”
As the sigh escaped my lips, they began firing their weapons. I leaped out toward the nearby alleyway that I was referred to earlier by the first four to avoid the gunfire. My form dispersed as I went through the air, twisting when a blast from a shotgun landed into my hip. My body slammed into the ground and slid into the neighboring brick wall, but I could not remain on the ground for too long lest they finish me. They must not prevent me from getting to my appointment.
I forced myself up onto my feet and continued down the hallway, my form shifting to support my injured form as I went along. I ran down to the end of the alley and turned a corner, the sound of rushing feet following along close behind. Instead of continuing this little chase, I hugged close to the wall and waited for a moment.
When the first grunt came around the corner, I brought one of my hands up and slammed it into his chin, followed up by turning on heel and taking hold of the front of what made up his clothing. I pushed forward, managing to catch a few off guard, causing them to trip and fall back as I rushed forth with their lead. A few calls and a grunt and the man in my hands was slammed up against the opposing wall.
The butt of a shotgun came up, which I caught with my hands before snapping out a kick into the opposing man’s knee. Turning around, I brought the butt of the shotgun into another grunt’s chest, followed up by an elbow to the jaw of the man that still held onto the shotgun before prying it away and bringing it down into the center of his face with a small splatter of blood. Instead of allowing them to reform and start firing once again, I tossed the shotgun toward the closest man in the main group, reached back to grab the front of the second man that I was having to deal with and toss him straight into the crowd.
I ran up, leaped into the air, and slammed into a few of them. The one that had cushioned my fall, however cruel he might be, was taken out upon impact with the concrete below. As I stood, my hands came around a pistol that was held by another and brought it close, the bang that came from it followed by a yelp by someone to my other side. I fell back, bringing my feet up into the man’s gut and send him flying into one that had begun to stand up. I continued back in the roll to land on my feet and leap forward, slamming my shoulder into the closest firearm-wielder and forced him up into the brick wall, took hold of his chest, and tossed him over my shoulder into another.
A small click filled the air, I turned my head, and then a sudden clang as my head snapped back. The metal mask had saved my skull, yet I still stumbled back for a short moment. A cheer was heard and then was slowly cut off as I brought my head forward once again, the lead piece slowly falling away to cling against the ground. “Well… I suppose that you volunteered… Take me to the sheriff.”
My feet slowly moved forward, bullets slamming into my form with every step, occasionally
causing my body and head to jerk where they hit with sparks and small bursts of the shadowy fire that constituted my form. Eventually there were only clicks, my hands wrapping around the pistol, and prying it out of his hands. “Take me to him. Now.” The scared man, hands up in the air, slowly lowered them and gave a nod of his head. Being the kind, merciful individual I was, I simply ejected the magazine of the pistol, spawned a new one, and loaded it into the weapon.
            “Good… You understand.”

The Encounter (Madness Combat Part 2)

The Encounter

With a small gesture, the dark blade that I carried vanished with a small burst of shadowy fire. It was of no use at this moment in time and I doubted that I would be in any true danger in this realm as I slowly made my way toward the sheriff’s office. A humanoid form of dark fire drew quite a noticeable amount of attention, especially when combined with my given attire. People stared, backed away, and kept a noticeable amount of distance between me and them.
It was of no concern to me… My form was only vaguely similar to their own, being of a similar shape, but not of the same substance. Such crude flesh… but, such a thing did possess its own benefits. It was easier to improve upon something made of multiple parts than a being of a single substance. Specialization was a factor, of course, but that was of little importance. What was important was making it to the sheriff’s office for my appointment, which seemed to be a more arduous task than I first imagined.
When I stepped around a tall, grey building… everything here was grey or black… sometimes red and white… I was greeted by four, almost featureless men with a mix of pistols, police-issue clubs, shotguns, and little badges on their grey shirts. They accosted me, directing me to step into a nearby alley for a surprise search, stating that such a suspicious individual such as myself warranted such a thing. I couldn’t blame them for thinking such a thing. “Who do you work for?” I asked the leader of the group, which he replied by saying that he worked for the sheriff.
It was a simple endeavor… I simply held out the note that I had found and politely asked them to lead me to the sheriff’s office so that I may go to my appointment. Instead of doing what I asked, they ripped up the note and told me to go into the alley way. If they were so inclined as to tear apart my little note, I simply took it upon myself to attempt to walk past them without another word.
Predictably they did not allow me to pass and, instead, attempted to grab my arm… which did nothing. They could hold onto the sleeve of my coat, but as soon as they attempted to pull me along, I simply continued forward. My form shifted and gave to allow my duster to slide off of my body before it reformed into its previous, humanoid shape. They took exception to this and the closest one brought their pistol up. I did not know what the poor mook was attempting to accomplish as I had already brought one of my own hands up into the air in a crescent motion, a trail of fire and the gleam of my dark blade following along.
The first split in half, the second was impaled through the side as I turned to face the still uninjured two, including the one holding my coat. As they brought up their firearms, I pulled their colleague up in the general path of the bullets. People ran screaming, almost entirely drowned out by the gunshots that filled the air. Blood flew one way and the other, my body ducking down behind the previously living grunt who had a chunk of his head blown off by a blast from the shotgun. In a swift motion, I launched the now decrepit corpse into the man wielding the boomstick, my sword still lodged in his spine, and followed up by summoning forth a copy of his firearm. My knowledge of weapons was limited as far as what existed… but, that wasn’t an issue currently.
A click and a boom later and their leader fell, his ragdoll form flying back with a splash of blood. I stepped up to the first as he pushed away the body, my foot coming up to slam down onto the wrist of the hand that was still holding the shotgun. “So then… Will you lead me to the sheriff now?” I brought my copied firearm up, the smoking barrel gently nudging up into the spot between his eyes. “Please?”
No sooner that the words left my mouth that the sound of approaching sirens filled the air. I glanced back over my shoulder, the blue and red of what appeared to be patrol cars driving up. With a small sigh, I simply created a crater in the man’s forehead with a pull of the trigger before reaching down to draw my sword from the still, bleeding corpse nearby and tossed away the shotgun that vanished in a burst of fire. I picked up my coat, slipped it on, and turned to face the approaching people. “I wonder if they will show me to the sheriff…”

Let Us Begin….
Silence. Darkness… and then the welcoming hand of the benefactor. A woman in white, drowning in boredom as she spoke to me. It was interesting… Going from an almost eternal feeling of consciousness to seeing a pale, grey landscape before me.
I was sitting on a bench now, my body composed of only dark energy that had apparently shaped itself into a more fitting shape for this world. A humanoid shape, but obviously anything but human. Sitting in front of me was a small box with the words “To get you started” written upon the top of it. With a simple movement, I opened the box and drew out a cold, steel mask, a pair of black pants and a matching, ankle-length duster, and a long, dark sword that appeared to be made of the same, amorphous matter as myself, but with a red glow along the blade. A final item of note, a small note, had the directions to some sort of facility and a letter saying that I had a meeting with the local sheriff… Whoever that may be.

A small stroll over to the nearby pond, ignoring the confused and worried looks of those that walked and played around me, and I donned my new clothes and, with my dim, red eyes glancing across the water, I tilted my head back and slowly slid the mask onto my face. My eyes grew in brightness, eventually breaking through the slits in the mask in a scarlet, flame-like glow that lapped at the edges of the mask. “Well… If I am to entertain the very being that gave me a true existence… I might as well get started. First… I should go to my appointment.”
